Printma king
Beej Nierengarten-Smith’s work as a printmaker demonstrates
her expertise in a variety of media such as photolithography,
solar prints, etching, Japanese woodcuts, and multimedia
combinations. Beej does not print editions. Each print
is hand altered, and the result is unique.
Beej frequently uses appropriated images, chine collé,
and collage techniques to increase the visual impact of
her work. She also coats her work with shellac, wax and
encaustic to achieve a lively and mystical surface. Boxed
artist books accompany prints. For her 2007 exhibition,
Beej is creating videos to expand the installation works.
Beej studied printmaking at the University of Minnesota,
Washington University, University of Missouri--St. Louis,
University of New Mexico, Bennington College, Haystack,
Penland School of Crafts, and Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
She is currently working on unique printmaking concepts
at the University of New Mexico and designing a series
of photolithographs and copper etchings with Landfall Press
in Santa Fe to be printed this summer. She will also be
incorporating digital techniques into her new work. |
